Christian Jones has been the communications secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge since April 2019.

The 31-year-old, who was previously head of news at the Department for Exiting the European Union, is to join private equity group Bridgepoint as a partner, the Telegraph reports.

Simon Case had been the Duke of Cambridge's right-hand man for nearly two years before he too moved on - joining Downing Street as head of the civil service in September last year.

A source told the newspaper: “Whereas Simon was credited with making the Duke a statesman - Christian has really helped them to steer them through their public-facing role during the pandemic.

He’s helped them to grow in confidence by gently pushing them out of their comfort zone.”

The newspaper said he would remain as an advisor to the royal couple.

Previously, Christian Jones had worked for the government department responsible for Brexit after he was employed at HM Treasury for nearly five years.

There he was a spokesperson before becoming chief press officer, after studying economics at Cardiff University.

The news of the departure from the Royal Household comes after reports that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be publicly reunited with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in July, despite there still be "unresolved issues" between the couples.

The four haven't been seen together since March, when the Sussexes joined Kate, William and the rest of the royal family for the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.

The event, which was Meghan and Harry's last as working royals, came at the height of a fallout between the brothers, and they were reportedly not on speaking terms.

However, royal expert Katie Nicholl said that things had improved - even though they're not back to where they were.
